Life at Korean Army
11/12/2020 The life in the Korean army is nothing but dreadful. I have come to realize why every Koreans dread their time in the service and told me to evade it, if it's possible. As a Korean American, I had the option to stay in the U.S. until the mandate for duty expired at the age of 38. Going back and forth between Korea and the U.S. before that age would have me sentenced to the military. My mom's friend's son is a Korean American; he used to go back and forth until he got picked up by the Korean military police at the Incheon airport. That had always worried my mom. She didn't want me to go to the military, but also didn't want me to stay in the U.S. until 38. The flights are not cheap you know. Anyhow, with the coronavirus shutting everything down, I saw the military as a safe haven for me to chill out until the virus faded.
